La sfarşitul anului 1925, pictorii N. N. Tonitza, Şt. Dimitrescu, Fr. Şirato şi sculptorul O. Han, desprinşi din societatea Arta Romană, formează Grupul celor patru, „cea mai prestigioasă asociaţie artistică dintre cele două războaie” (Barbu Brezianu). Uniţi nu atat prin temperament şi viziune, cat prin devotamentul faţa de artă şi responsabila asumare a condiţiei de artist, cei patru vor scrie un capitol important in istoria picturii şi sculpturii moderne romaneşti, cultivand in cadrul unităţii grupării diversitatea propriilor individualităţi creatoare, afirmate cu indrăzneală şi originalitate.
Intr-un demers ambiţios, bogat documentat şi ilustrat, monografia dnei Doina Păuleanu conturează istoria infiinţării şi evoluţiei acestei asociaţii. Constituie, in egală măsură, o cronică a cronicilor prilejuite de activitatea ei (cele 9 expoziţii), de unde şi nota savuroasă, bogăţia de informaţii şi opinii, varietatea judecăţilor de valoare, totul ca intr-un tableau vivant, ce reuşeşte să transpună in prezent ceva din culoarea unor vremuri apuse.

Han, separating themselves from the society Romanian Art, form The group of the four, “the most prestigious artistic association in the inter-war period” (Barbu Brezianu). Conjoined not so much by spirit and vision, but by their devotion for art and responsible assumption of their condition as artists, the four represent an important chapter in the history of Romanian modern painting and sculpture, cherishing in the inner unity of the group the diversity of their own creative individualities, boldly and originally stated.
In an ambitious attempt, carefully documented and illustrated, Doina Păuleanu outlines in this monography the history of the foundation and evolution of this association. Also, it can be considered a review of the reviews determined by its activity (9 exhibitions), and so this is the savoury aspect, the richness of information and opinions, the variety of valuable considerations, all disposed in a tableau vivant, that succeeds to transfer into the present the air of past times.


Le groupe des quatre

À la fin de l’année 1925, les peintres N. N. Tonitza, Șt. Dimitrescu, Fr. Șirato et le sculpteur O. Han, qui s’étaient détachés de la société Art roumain, forment Le groupe des quatre, « la plus prestigieuse association artistique de l’entre-deux-guerres » (Barbu Brezianu). Unis pas autant par tempérament et vision, que par le dévouement envers l’art et l’acceptation de la condition d’artiste, les quatre allaient écrire un chapitre important dans l’histoire de la peinture et de la sculpture modernes roumaines, tout en favorisant, dans l’unité du groupe, la diversité des propres individualités créatrices, affirmées avec audace et originalité. Dans une démarche ambitieuse, richement documentée et illustrée, la monographie de Doina Păuleanu trace l’histoire de la création et de l’évolution de cette association. Elle est, en même temps, une chronique des chroniques engendrées par son activité (les neuf expositions), d’où résultent la note savoureuse, la richesse d’information et d’opinions, la variété des jugements de valeur, et tout ceci, comme dans un tableau vivant, réussit à transmettre un peu de la couleur de cette époque révolue.
